There are two types:
-The first type is longitudinal (passing longitudinally in relation to the body of the petrous bone) while the second one is transverse ( passing horizontally in relation to the petrous bone).
-Longitudinal (80-90%) commonly involve middle ear causing dislocation or sublaxation of incodo-maleal joint or pneumo-labyrinth (air inside vestibule).
-Transverse (10-20%) commonly involve facial nerve and inner ear.
