Temporal bone rule 13 : Glomus tympanicum

1- Is a non dependent nodule of soft tissue in the middle ear.
2-Large lesions does not cause bone erosion(typical finding).
3-MRI with contrast shows intense enhancement of the mass.
4-The difference between it and cholesteatoma is that the former enhance intensely without bone erosion even it is large in size, while the latter does not enhance at all and causing bone erosion.
5-By otoscopy, it appears as a red retro tympanic mass.
