Para sellar area rule 1: contents

The para sellar area contains the following structures:
1-Cavernous sinus and its content which are internal carotid artery, cranial nerves 3,4,5,6.
Internal carotid artery give rise to aneurysm, while cranial nerves give rise to neuroma which are most commonly trigeminal neuroma(8 figure sign as it appears in the para sellar area and in the cerebello-pontine angle area), while cavernous itself can gives carotid cavernous fistula(give rise to dilated superior ophthalmic vein) and cavernous sinus thrombosis.
2- Dura giving rise to meningioma( inside or outside the sinus).
3- Lastly, the bones giving rise to chordoma--- marked hyper intensity in T2 being like a cyst.
