Pancreas rule 11 : Cystic pancreatic tumors


¨Cystic tumors
¨Can be sub-divided into two categories
¨Mucinous  cystic tumors, composed of big cysts, M from mucinous and M from magnify just to remember
¨-Serous cystic tumors, composed of small cysts, S from serous and also from small, just to remember
 
¨Mucinous cyst tumors
¨Mainly seen in body and tail
¨Usually larger than 2 cm
¨Cystic multilocular usually more than 6 cysts
¨Cyst wall may be thin or thick , may enhance with or without Ca
¨Cyst- adeno carcinoma =A sizable solid component should be present
 
¨Serous cystic tumors 
also known as  micro-cystic adenoma
¨Occurs in all areas of pancreas
¨Multiple cysts<2cms. With or without Calcium
¨Differentiation between benign and malignant form of this lesion is difficult unless you find signs of malignancy such as lymph-adenopathy
¨Presence of contour deformity means pancreatic carcinoma whether it is solid type or cystic type
