Orbital rule 12 : Optic nerve glioma

1-Are low grade astrocytoma.
2-Before age of 20 years.
3-Associated with type 1 neurofibromatosis, in addition to optic nerve meningioma especially when bilaterally.
4-CT= smooth fusiform enlargement of the optic nerve.
            Nerve become tortuous.
            No lucent track sign.
            Look for intra cranial extension.
5-MRI findings:
T1=Low signal intensity.
T2=High signal intensity.
Homogenous enhancement.
No lucent track sign.
Intra cranial extension along optic pathway.


MRI T1 with diffuse enlargement of left optic nerve

Intense signaling of left optic nerve by T2

Homogenous enhancement with tortuocity of the nerve.
