Temporal bone rule 5 : Middle ear dysplasia

1-Usually it occurs with external ear dysplasia or atresia.
2- Characterized by
-Contracted middle ear cavity which is a small cavity.
-A cavity smaller than 3 mm is a cavity inadequate for ossicular reconstruction.
-Otosclerosis is an oval window that is obstructed by bone.
  Normally, oval window measures about 2 mm in diameter in coronal view.
-Anomalies of the facial nerve and carotid artery.
